Margo is a visual artist, experienced in a diverse range of media. Trained in oils, with extensive work in acrylics, she has currently maintained a focus on watercolors, line drawing, and has incorporate new media in digital art and in a 3D format. Photography is the foundation of her artwork, as a matter of reference or as the work, itself.
Subject matter whether it is a literal translation or an abstract thought, is found within our everyday life. It is those "missed" prisms of wonder and delight of a simple strand of a spider web that Margo places on pedestals for us to enjoy; to the excruciating pain that she empathizes with from force feeding poultry for a delicacy of human consumption, that forms her base of work.
As an advertising major with a degree from NY Tech, and working in the field of controlled atmosphere of illustrations, markups, desktop publishing, and working to create another person's vision, Margo gave rise to her realization that the technique of photo realism, although beautiful in its own right, is not the type of work she wants to produce. Art, as defined by Margo, "Is the tangible evidence of one's imagination and soul". She does not believe that an imagination can be copied and methodically reproduced, but it needs to burst onto the paper in an explosion of control, and excitement; diametrically opposed forces that create the complexity of life. Although seemingly copied "verbatim" there is an element of not being exact.
Interest in art from the very first "magical" Paint With Water Coloring Book given to her at the age of 5 years old, from her dad, has never left her side. Although she has taken a sabbatical to raise her children and become part of the home-school movement, all of her teachings incorporated creativity and resourcefulness, keeping the inner artist alive.
Staying connected in the world of art and artists, today, is a task that Margo takes seriously, by joining workshops around the country, led by contemporary watercolor artists. She loves to learn new techniques and enjoys the excitement of exchanging ideas with other artists. She does not strive to paint like others, but to have her own vision for each subject enabling her to develop and keep her own artistic "voice".
Taking a page from her father's book of life, who was a chemist and always loved experimenting in different aspects of his life, from cooking to carpentry, Margo loves experimenting with new media and using familiar media in new and unique ways. Margo has gained a love of science with respect towards finding "another way". She continues to experiment with materials, techniques, and mediums to create artwork from her studios in Gilroy and Carmel Valley, CA and on her travels and she incorporates her artistic values in her soap making, through The Gossamer Company.
